I'm Tomide Awe, the founder of Olori. Our mission is to create high-quality products that celebrate individual expression and elevate collective legacy.
As a Nigerian, I was always surrounded by traditional prints and textiles. To me, these textiles are symbolic of tribal roots so deep and stories so dear to my people. I've always admired the art and craftsmanship behind these textiles. After moving to England to study and developing friendships with non-Africans, I wanted to find a way to share my culture with my friends in a way that they could also appreciate. This is where the seeds for what became Olori were first planted.
Olori was also inspired by some of the trailblazers who have gone before me. Women like Adunni, my grandmother, who, despite not being educated because of her gender, endured hardships so that all her children could get an education. And my mother, who picked up the torch and passed on the importance of education to me and my siblings. I consider it a duty and an honor to carry on their legacy by providing an avenue for girls everywhere to get the same opportunities that I did - to have women who believe in them enough to make space for them.
Olori offers high-quality, Africa -inspired pieces that are an invitation to experience the beauty of African culture and craftsmanship. Our products are handmade using luxurious, traditional African textiles and premium leather. Through our production processes, economic empowerment is provided to local, women-owned businesses in Africa. Additionally, every product we well helps make quality education accessible to girls in under-served African communities.
