We make award winning gut friendly, dairy and grain free products. My search for tasty plant based milk alternatives lead to developing products that are tasty and nutritious. Growing up with my Grandmum-Ruby, she taught me about various plants and botanicals including its benefits. Although as a child, what I really appreciated was the food that we made from these plants. All our products are free from dairy, grains, gluten and preservatives. We perfectly combine nutrition and wellness without comprising on taste.

The name "Basbaas" comes from the Somali term for chili, but our sauces actually build on a much richer (and spicier) history. Somalia, situated in the Horn of Africa, lies between Djibouti in the northwest, Ethiopia in the west, and Kenya in the southwest, and ingredients such as turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and pepper have been central to the region’s culinary identity since the 3rd millennium BC. Basbaas hot sauces are truly Somali and genuinely global. Inspired by heirloom recipes, the first two offerings embody the bold flavors of Somali cuisine with a uniquely American twist—fruits, herbs, and other flavors to create sweet and tangy offerings. And there’s more to come. Basbaas is the only authentic, packaged Somali line of hot sauces and chutneys currently available in the United States. Designed to perfectly complement Middle Eastern-inspired spicy chutneys and other ethnic sauces, Basbaas is hand-crafted in small batches, and bottled and sourced in Stuyvesant Falls, Hudson Valley. The products are all-natural, locally sourced, gluten-free and vegan.

Pipcorn was born in 2012, when Jeff Martin was helping his sister, Jen move apartments. With everything packed up except a bag of tiny heirloom popcorn kernels that Jen found in the Chicago health food store where she worked, they popped batch after batch of the most delicious popcorn they’d ever had! They liked this one so much, they tracked down the Indiana farmer who grew it from his family’s heirloom seed stock. Together with Jeff’s wife, Teresa, they created a new company, Pipsnacks. We are proud to be a women-owned, minority-owned, family business, and this is our eight year story condensed into some major and minor milestones. The biggest takeaway? We are unbelievably grateful to be here and we love snacks, especially ones made with heirloom corn!

My favorite thing to do as a cook is to prepare my daddy’s recipes and make them vegan, gluten free or just a little better for you while keeping the flavor that causes a party on your tongue. My daddy’s original recipes were definitely good to you but not necessarily good for you! So me being my daddy’s original recipe, I want my customers to have flavorful long lives so I take out a few things that are not good for you and replaced them with good for you ingredients and lots of love!
