Before there was chocolate, there was cocoa. Dark Sugars is the story of one woman’s journey to tell the story of cocoa - from tree to tummy. Nyanga began her quest in Spitalfields Market with just two truffles and a lot of chutzpah. Along the way, she met a man who loved cocoa as much as she did! Together, Nyanga and the Chocolate Man set sail for Borough Market. After many exciting years at Borough, Nyanga packed up her truffles and flew to South America and West Africa; where she spent three years researching cocoa on her family's farm. She returned feeling excited to bring her experience in Ghana to the streets of East London. In 2013, Nyanga reunited with the Chocolate Man and together they opened the Dark Sugars Chocolate Shop on Brick Lane. People came to the shop from all around the world just to get a little taste of Ghanaian cocoa beans and dance with the Chocolate Man. Two years after opening, Nyanga decided it was time to begin the next chapter of Dark Sugars: The Cocoa House. Dark Sugars Cocoa House brings the culture of West African cocoa production to Brick Lane. At the Cocoa House, you can sway your hips to the sound of the Senegalese sabar, take in the aroma of roasting cocoa beans, watch mango slices swirling in luscious dark chocolate, and taste the sinful thickness of Pitch Black Hot Chocolate. At Dark Sugars, we want to bring you quality chocolate without pretension and with all the passion of our rich and vibrant culture. Come on by and make yourself happy.

Hello – I’m Pia Cato, the owner and founder of the Vanilla Pod Bakery. My Cotswold based business was born out of a passion for creating delicious cakes that put a smile on people’s faces. I’ve loved baking for as long as I can remember. I have fond memories of making yummy scones and helping my father bake jam tarts on a lazy Sunday afternoons. So it was only natural that I went on to launch the Vanilla Pod Bakery in 2009. I decided to set the business up after I won the University of Gloucestershire’s first ever business planning competition. Initially, my idea was to open a cupcake tearooms but I soon discovered that my heart lay with creating bespoke cakes for extra special occasions. And the Vanilla Pod Bakery was born. We now specialise in creating relaxed yet elegant wedding cakes. Myself and small team operate out of a dedicated cake studio in the Fairview area of Cheltenham. We offer a highly personalised cake experience, with all cakes being created to order. No factory lines here! Using high-quality ingredients – from local free-range eggs from our super suppliers Happy Chuck Eggs, to Matthews Cotswold Flour, to fragrant Madagascan vanilla. All of our mouth-watering cakes are handed created with the upmost care and love. Over the years myself and team have been very lucky to bake for many wonderful couples and have been featured in many super blogs and magazines, including OK! and Hello. We are also a preferred cake supplier at a number of prestigious venues across the Cotswold area

Since 2011, Chef Jess sought to make living a healthy lifestyle more accessible to people within the DMV. From changing the way people think about office catering to delivering delicious family meals to your front door, the Chef Jess team helps companies, individuals, and families become their healthiest selves. Founded by Jessica Swift, a registered dietitian and trained chef of Johnston and Wales University, the first Chef Jess “client” was her own father. After being diagnosed with Type II diabetes, Jess guided him to losing half his bodyweight, going from 300+ pounds to a healthy 180. Doctors started referring their patients to Jess, knowing she had the medical background to prescribe the correct meal plan combined with the culinary skills to make the transition easy. Today, Chef Jess offers catering, at-home meal delivery, and nutrition consultations to individuals and organizations in the greater Washington area.
