Anita Grant is a black-owned skincare brand. It started because of a negative personal experience; Grant went to the hospital after a lotion containing propylene glycol blistered her hands. Many manufacturers use this ingredient as a humectant in hair care products. They also use it in car antifreeze, and most authorities consider it safe - but it was not safe for Grant. At this point, she knew that she had to create the products she needed to keep herself happy and healthy. If she could put it in her body, she could put it on her body. So, she began experimenting with ingredients from her kitchen. She explored virgin coconut oil, coffee grinds, and sugar. She also worked with extra virgin olive oil, flaxseeds, and fenugreek seeds. Dried herbs, fresh okra, bicarbonate of soda, and honey also came under Grant's scrutiny. Fifteen years later, Grant's products are online, where it all began.
